EID-EL-FITRI: HAMZAT HARPS ON PEACEFUL COEXISTENCE FOR NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat has advised Nigerians to shun all forms of anger, hatred and work together with their leaders to set the nation on a better pedestal of development.
The Deputy Governor, who gave this admonition today after observing the Eid- el-Fitri Prayer at Dodan Barracks Praying Ground, Obalende, Lagos, said it is high time every Nigerian should work towards setting the nation on a better pedestal of development rather than wallow in anger, hatred, bitterness which will not augur well for the country.
He added that citizens should also relate with one another with the fear of God, avoid hatred and support their leaders in making the country a better place for all to live. He said, ”We should get down to work and look away from anger and think of how to make the country work with our leaders”.
Speaking further, Dr. Hamzat called on Nigerian leaders to always relate with the citizens with the fear of God which is in line with the teachings of the Holy Quran. He added that they should bear in mind that governance is a stewardship that would be accounted for on the last day. He, therefore, charged them to do their best in ensuring that they enhance the living condition and well-being of Nigerians.
Dr. Hamzat said, “As leaders, we all should do well and know that it is everyone that will give an account of how they have lived their lives and it is high time that we all need to do our best well as parents, leaders and citizens”.
While congratulating all Muslims for witnessing the end of Ramadan, the Deputy Governor tasked them to always put into practice, lessons learnt during Ramadan which include fear of Allah, compassion and love for everyone, providing for one another, being careful with utterances, actions to others and understand that at the end of the day, everyone will give an account of their stewardship in life and God will judge.
Earlier in his sermon, the Chief Imam of Lagos State, Sheihk Sulaimon Abu-Nollah stated that Leadership and Governance is a call by God and that everyone will give an account of their stewardship to Allah.
He stated that Political leaders should always remember that being elected into office is a divine call and as such should deliver on their mandate accordingly and with the fear of God.
The Chief Imam thereafter prayed for peace and harmony in Lagos State and Nigeria.
